I've been having an issue where my PC was running slowly with massive lag and system hangs to the point of being almost unusable, and the culprit is the Box Drive File System. The memory use is sitting at about 4GB/s when I check in task manager. I have coworkers using the desktop app and none of them have this problem - it only uses about 20-30MB/s on their systems.

Have tried clearing cached files and reinstalling Box Drive but nothing seems to help.

Hi HF,

Welcome to the Box Community!

Have you tried logging out of Box Drive yet?

  • Logging out completely removes all traces of your Drive usage from your machine and enables you to log in again as a new user. Also, when you log out, your Box Drive session ends and the login screen displays. In addition, logging out of Box Drive deletes all of the downloaded content you had marked for offline availability. This of course clears up hard disk space on your device. It also returns to an online-only state all of the content you have marked for offline availability. You will have to repeat the process of marking folders for offline availability.

In addition, Box Drive's cache size limit is set to 50% of your available local disk space with a maximum limit of 25GB and a minimum of 1GB and you can adjust this maximum limit, please see steps in this article: https://support.box.com/hc/en-us/articles/360043695894-Technical-Information-for-Box-Drive-Administrators

Hope that helps!

Thanks for your participation in the Community!

Is it possible to change the location of Box Drive’s cache?
Currently after changing the mount location to a drive that is not C:, cache files are still appearing on C: and filling up the system drive.
Release notes say it is possible but I have not been able to find out how.
Thanks
