Hi Elysian,
I understand that you would like some information on data backup of Box contents, I'd be happy to help!
Technically, Box is already your Backup as your contents are secure and safely stored in the Box cloud.
But it you wish to create copies of all your Box contents outside of Box such as your desktop or a local hard-drive, there are different methods you may use:
Hope this information helps! Let us know if you have other questions and we'll do our best to help you.

Sorry for the late reply.
So to run a scenario
If a staff member deletes files for what ever reason and 13 months later we need those files can they be restored with the current backup solution.
We have an obligation to hold all data for 7 years so just wanted to make sure that we are covered
For your use case we have Box Governance. With Box Governance you get the ability to control who can delete the information in the trash at what time. With these trash settings set to 7 years, users can always restore their files for 7 years. This would easily match the 13 months from your example.
Apart from that, Box Governance gives you the ability to implement legal retention policies for your system. This would ensure that the data can not be disposed before the retention date has been reached (7 years in your example).
Out of the box, Box comes with first class disaster recovery protection, removing yet another reason for having a separate backup.
21948322948 Late comment, but could you please qualify (ELI5-style) what "Out of the box ... first class disaster recovery protection" entails, if (as Elysian asks) files have been removed and it's discovered much later?
The Box solution does not have a single point of failure. All services and all data are redundant. This means that Box will just continue working, if one of the components in the architecture fails because of a unexpected disaster.
If you have Box governance, you or your admin can use the Bin settings in the admin console. With those settings you can ensure data is not deleted from the bin for a number of days / months / years. This allows you to restore deleted data for the amount of time specified.
You can read more about that feature here: https://support.box.com/hc/en-us/articles/360043692394-Customize-Trash-Settings-for-Your-Enterprise

But it you wish to create copies of all your Box contents outside of Box such as your desktop or a local hard-drive, there are different methods you may use:
Using FTP. - recommended for occasional bulk downloading of files from your account.
Downloading Files and Folders
Using Box Drive or Box Sync - these are two separate desktop applications that give you the ability to access Box content from your desktop environment,

The link in the second bullet point Downloading Files and Folders does not exist. Is there a correct link somewhere?
