I create an image of my entire hard drive every few days using Acronis Cyber Protect Home.  The image file is stored on an external hard drive. I use Box Drive and synchronize my Box folder (and subdirectories) to the Cloud and to two separate laptops.

Today, I had the need to restore one particular file stored in a box subdirectory from the external backup file on the external hard drive.  When I navigate to the Box directory on the external backup file, it exists, but it is completely empty.  This leads me to believe that:

(1) My Box files on my hard drive are actually stored somewhere else (most likely in the USERS\APPDATA\LOCAL\BOX directory or subdirectory somewhere), and

(2) The file names are disguised, so they are meaningless to me.

Here is the issue:  Let's say I accidentally delete a file or a file gets corrupted on one of my laptops.  I want to go get the last saved version of it from the Acronis image file (saved as a .tibx file on the External hard drive).  How can I do that if the files really arent located in my \USERS\BOX directory and subdirectories?

In other words, if I accidentally delete a file and I'm using Box Drive, which syncs to the cloud and to another computer (so the deleted file is removed from the Cloud and the other computer), how can I create a backup?  I thought the Acronis image backup would capture it, but it isn't capturing it at all.  I believe Box Sync for Windows did capture the actual files, but not Box Drive, and I thought Box Drive is the latest version.

Help would be appreciated.

Update:  Microsoft CoPilot has indicated that Box Drive is a virtual drive, and as such, the files I see there are not actually stored on my local hard drive.  CoPilot did point out that Microsoft OneDrive actually stores the data on my local laptop drives.  My solution to the issue above, unfortunately, is to start using Microsoft OneDrive and stop using Box Drive.

Thank you so much for updating.  One of my clients lives and breathes by Box.  They have (inexplicably) integrated it to every facet of their business, and it has made managing their IT very difficult.  Anyway, thank you so much for your post and your update.  I have been working on creating backups for hours, to no avail, because your hypothetical situation actually happened to them with one of their employees.  Also unfortunately, they did not wany me to modify the retention policy in the admin console; so, by the time they went looking for the folder, the data was lost.  Thus, they have been wanting me to create external backups - essentially, snapshots, of data, which would be available offline and without internet access.  Anyway, thank you so much.
