Recap of Recent Releases
- Box AI Home & AI Search on Mobile: The powerful capabilities of Box AI, previously available on the web, have been fully integrated into the mobile experience. Users can now get intelligent insights and perform complex, natural language searches across all their content directly from their mobile devices.
- EXIF Metadata & Capture: To support field-based workflows in industries like construction and transportation, the app now captures and displays EXIF metadata (like geolocation and timestamps) for images uploaded via mobile.
EXIF data (Exchangeable Image File Format) is hidden technical information saved inside a digital photo, including camera settings, date and time, and GPS location. It is created automatically by your camera or phone every time you snap a picture
- UI Revamp: Both the iOS and Android apps received a major visual overhaul. The iOS app now features the modern "liquid glass" design, and the Android experience has also been refreshed for a more intuitive and consistent user experience.
Upcoming Features (Coming in August)
Two major, highly-requested features were announced for an imminent release in August:
- Hubs on Mobile: Users will soon be able to view their Box Hubs directly within the mobile app. The initial release will be view-only, allowing users to access their curated content portals on the go. Future updates are planned to include offlining, sharing, and eventually, editing and creation capabilities.
- Task Creation on Mobile: The number one user-requested feature, the ability to create general and approval tasks, will be enabled on mobile. This will allow users to initiate and manage workflows from anywhere.
Features Under Consideration
The team provided a glimpse into the future roadmap, discussing several features being actively considered for development:
- AI Enhancements: This includes a "Human in the Loop" feature to allow for more interactive AI queries and offline access to Box AI for summarizing and querying documents without an internet connection.
- Deeper OS Integration: The team is exploring integration with Siri and Google Assistant to allow users to find Box content using voice commands.
- Enhanced Previews & Collaboration: An HTML previewer is planned to better display AI-generated and other web-based content. Threaded replies for comments are also being considered to improve collaboration.
Q&A Session
The interactive Q&A session covered several important topics, including:
- Admin Controls: Admins have granular control over who can access the Box mobile app and its features, including Box AI, through the admin panel and EMM settings.
- Search UI: The team clarified the mobile UI for differentiating between traditional keyword search and Box AI search, which is designed to be more explicit than the current web experience.
- Platform Parity: While Box aims for complete feature parity between iOS and Android, minor differences exist due to platform-specific patterns and capabilities, such as the side-by-side view on iPad.
- Integrations: The team addressed questions about the future of Box Sign and Box Apps on mobile, confirming they are being considered for future native integration.
