Exploring AI Trends Through Interactive Polls

To kickoff a discussion on AI’s use in the public sector, @thomasdeely Box  introduced interactive polls for attendees to reflect on their AI adoption stages and biggest challenges. The polls revealed insights into the readiness of organizations at varying stages of their AI journeys. Recording clip here

  • Many participants were in the early stages, testing proof-of-concept solutions.

  • However, 40% of attendees at a previous Box + Microsoft roundtable had noted organization-wide AI deployments.

Thomas shared observations on common barriers to adoption:"The most popular votes we've seen here generally are just concern around data access and permissions, use cases, and change management."

@MMasood Box highlighted data access and compliance concerns relating to data privacy are a big concern. He highlighted how building these guardrails in house is a significant undertaking, and the need to rely on vendors, partners who do this well.

Box’s Value for the Public Sector: A Secure Foundation

@MMasood Box   gave a detailed overview, and highlighted Box as the trusted content management solution for over a decade, renowned for enterprise-grade security and compliance. Murtaza outlined the following features:

  • FedRAMP, CJIS, HIPAA, and PII Compliance: Built-in security standards ensure data trustworthiness.

  • Hyper Scalability: Unlimited storage capabilities provide flexibility for growing needs.

Murtaza emphasized Box’s proactive approach:

“FedRAMP compliance, the CJIS, HIPAA, PII compliance...is an inherent feature of our platform, not as an add-on or bolt-on.”

Advancements in Box AI and Automation

With recent updates from BoxWorks, attendees learned how Box AI has leveled up with innovative capabilities:

  1. Agentic AI Features: Box AI now includes workflow automation based on AI-driven document searches and classifications.“Create automated processes based on those agentic workflow capabilities...with AI guardrails as core capabilities rather than a second thought.”

  2. Integration Across Platforms: Through over 1,500 integrations, Box ensures accessibility across productivity suites and business applications like Salesforce, Microsoft Dynamics, and ServiceNow.“You can access content while it is protected and preserved in the underlying Box platform.”

  3. Low-Code/No-Code Solutions: Box AI Studio allows users to build context-aware agents easily, targeting specific needs, such as contract or claims agents. “You are now able to create context-aware agents for eligibility, contracts, or claims using low-code/no-code tools.”

“A lot of these AI cases , especially in health and human services , are always going to have that human in the loop” from @MMasood Box

Healthcare and Human Services Use Cases

@MMasood Box spoke about Box AI’s capabilities, within health and human services. Key use cases included:

  1. Workforce Services - Automation for Income Verification: AI extracts information from uploaded documents, compares them against business rules, and validates submissions rapidly. “It can extract the right information, compare that...and verify whether the document submitted as income verification is valid.”

  2. Special Programs - Case Management and Issue Flagging: AI identifies key terms in case files, raising alerts for crises or detecting fraud.“AI agents run in the background looking for key semantic terms to flag potential issues.”

  3. Program and Policy - Policy Renewal Automation: AI triggers workflows for policy review and aggregates relevant documents to streamline approvals. “Automatically kick off workflows and send required documents to the right analyst, at the right time.”

  4. Enhancing Call Center Efficiency: Box AI helps summarize prior interactions, accelerating responses with precise information. “Box AI reduces time finding information, improving accuracy in responses and minimizing delays.”

  5. Administrative Services - HR Automation: From extracting data from resumes to processing onboarding documents, Box AI supports faster, more efficient workflows.“HR analysts can process employee onboarding faster using automated data extraction.”

Solutions Engineer Tyler Kratzer showcased applications of Box AI during a live demo simulating a healthcare eligibility assessment, underscoring three key aspects:

  1. Advanced Metadata Extraction: AI-powered tools automate data entry, sort applications into dashboards, and flag discrepancies, allowing caseworkers to focus on high-value tasks such as reviewing critical documents. “Extracted metadata enables sorting, dashboard creation, and notification of discrepancies.”

  2. Custom Dashboards for Organization: Documents based on metadata can be visualized and classified to streamline workflows. “Dashboards sort applications by year, hospital facility, or eligibility status.”

  3. AI-Powered Eligibility Assessment: Context-aware AI agents evaluate eligibility efficiently, using Dept of Healthcare policy removing manual work

Tyler ended with a demo of a portal in Box Hubs, where he queried the Hub on policies and got an answer back e.g. “How do I file for discrimination?” and also a short overview of Box AI Studio.

Tyler emphasized Box AI’s model-agnostic capabilities. Users can select AI models tailored to specific tasks without  subscriptions to each model:“Box AI is model agnostic. You can leverage Claude, Gemini, OpenAI, or others depending on your use case.”

Tyler highlighted that some models are stronger than others at different tasks, for example, Gemini is stronger on images, giving customers flexibility to choose the best model based on the specific use case.
