What is Box Automate?

Box Automate is a no-code tool that helps teams automate workflows. It connects triggers (like file uploads) to actions (like approvals or document generation) to streamline business processes. It also uses AI agents to handle complex tasks and reduce manual work.

What Box AI Agents can I use in Box Automate?

You can use the Box Agent and Extract Agent, or build your own custom agents to automate tasks and support your workflows.

What triggers and actions does Box Automate support?

Workflows can start from events like file uploads, folder changes, tasks, metadata updates, form submissions, or manual triggers. Actions include assigning tasks, tagging metadata, sending notifications, generating documents, and requesting signatures.

Does Box Automate support flexible workflow routing?

Yes, Box Automate includes flexible workflow routing options such as conditional branching and parallel routing, allowing users to create dynamic workflows that adapt based on specific conditions. Additional branching includes merging, splitting, logic splitting, and AI routing.

Can users track and collaborate on workflows?

Yes, Box Automate provides both tracking and collaboration capabilities. It offers detailed workflow monitoring and tracking to keep users updated on business process activities. Additionally, Box Automate supports workflow sharing and collaboration features, enabling users to seamlessly work together across different business processes.

How does Box Automate compare to other automation tools?

Box Automate brings workflow automation, AI-powered document understanding, and content management into one platform so you don’t have to piece together multiple tools.

While many automation tools simply move data or trigger basic actions, Box Automate works directly with your content. It uses agents to understand documents, extract key information, and drive decisions. This reduces manual work and simplifies integrations.

Built with enterprise security and compliance in mind, it scales easily across teams handling sensitive information.

What if I use Relay today?
If you are using Relay today, you will still have access to Relay. Both Automate and Relay will be supported for the foreseeable future. Notifications will be sent out if anything changes.

With Automate GA, there are some changes to Relay to note:

  • The Relay tab will be renamed to the Automate tab for all users

  • Customers can continue managing Relay workflows from within the Automate tab without disruption

  • Creating new Relays changes slightly: Go to "Automate → New → More → Relay"

  • There is no immediate requirement to migrate Relay workflows to Automate

  • Migrating Relay workflows to Automate must be done manually for now

  • Future enhancements will only be released in Automate, not Relay
