Catch the latest episode of the AI First Podcast, where Box CCO Jon Herstein sits down with Box CIO Ravi Malick to unpack the biggest insights from a year of conversations with forward‑thinking CIOs and technology leaders.

In this recent community poll, the top prediction for 2026 was Model Commoditization - “The ‘which model’ question will matter less as orchestration layers abstract model selection. Organizations will care more about outcomes than underlying models.”

While I’m aligned w/ Prediction 1 on Agentic AI, my 'Wild Card' for 2026 goes deeper into the medium of work:

Rise of the 'Audio-First' Enterprise & Rebirth of Hackathons as Buildathons

  1. Voice as Execution, Not Just Input: In 2026, we’ll stop treating meeting recordings & voice notes as 'static files' to be stored. Instead, they become the primary Context Layer for action. With the Box/AWS Bedrock integration, we move beyond 'Siri for the Enterprise' (answering questions) to Output-Focused Agents. You won't just ask Box what happened in a meeting; you’ll tell Box to 'Execute the takeaways,' and it will autonomously draft the RFPs in Box, assign the Jira tickets, and update the Salesforce records based on the context of that recording.

  2. 'Buildathon' Era: 2026 is the year 'Hackathons' (for coders) evolve into 'Buildathons' (for Citizen Developers). Because of the low-barrier orchestration layers, the most 'Incredible Things Built on Box' won’t come from engineering teams alone. They will come from domain experts -- Sales Ops, HR leads, & Field Marketing --- using natural language to build autonomous agents.

  3. 3x Content Velocity: Because AI is now handling the 'unstructured to structured' pipeline (Prediction 4), organizations will produce 3x the social & internal content they do today. The 'Boxer' of 2026 isn't just a knowledge worker; they are an Agent Orchestrator managing a fleet of outputs.

The tech is economically viable now: the 2026 win is about who builds the movement to deploy it fastest. See you all @ the Buildathons!

New hardware interfaces will also be a topic in 2026, for everyday AI.
