What an incredible conversation we had at our **Box Notes: Product Highlights and Customer Feedback** roundtable on September 22nd.
We heard a lot of great questions during the session, and we want to make sure everyone, whether you attended live or are catching up now, has access to the answers. So we've put together this post to walk through the top questions we received, share what we know today, and give you a peek at what's coming.

🔑 Q1: What are the real benefits of Box Notes over just uploading a Word doc?
This was one of our most popular pre-submitted questions, and it's a great one.
Here's the honest answer: **Box Notes isn't trying to replace Word** it's a different tool for a different job. Here's what makes it uniquely powerful:
**It's native to Box.** A Box Note lives *inside* Box it's not a proxy or a file that gets downloaded, edited, and re-uploaded. It's always in sync, always in the right place.
**Permissions are automatic.** When you create a Note inside a folder, it inherits that folder's permissions instantly. No extra sharing steps, no "oops, I forgot to share it" moments.
**Deep Box AI integration.** Box AI can generate content, summarize your note, extract action items, and help you draft all natively, right inside the note. This isn't a bolt-on; it's built in.
**Real-time collaboration.** Multiple people can write, edit, and comment simultaneously. You can see exactly where your collaborators are working with inline cursors.
**It's lightweight and fast.** For meeting notes, project trackers, SOPs, wikis, and field notes Box Notes is purpose-built for living documents that teams update together.
**The bottom line:** If you need advanced formatting, complex formulas, or a polished final document, Word is great. But if you need a collaborative, AI-powered, always-up-to-date working document that lives securely in Box Notes is your tool.

🤖 Q2: Is Box DocGen being extended to create Box Notes?
Short answer: **Yes, this is on our roadmap.** We can't share a specific timeline yet, but the team is actively planning for DocGen to support Box Notes as an output format. Stay tuned, we'll share more as it gets closer.

📊 Q3: What workflows are driving demand for richer tables and charts in Notes?
Great question, and one we think about a lot. The **#1 use case** we hear from customers is **project tracking**. Engineering teams in particular use tables heavily to manage tasks, track status, and organize work across sprints.
The good news: we've been investing heavily here. Recent table enhancements include:
- Filter and sort rows
- Drag rows and columns to reorder
- Change cell colors (and colors are preserved when copying into email!)
- Merge cells
- Fixed/sticky headers for large tables
- Redesigned menus with quick actions
And we now support **Mermaid diagrams** so you can create flowcharts and sequence diagrams directly inside a note. You can even ask Box AI to generate the diagram for you!

🖥️ Q4: Any plans for deeper integration between Box Notes and Box Drive?

🏷️ Q5: Can Box Notes be classified like other files?
Not yet, but it's on our radar as a roadmap candidate. Classification for Notes is something we've heard from multiple customers, and we're evaluating it. If this is important to your workflow, let us know in the comments, customer signal helps us prioritize.

🗂️ Q6: Can Box Notes be added to Box Hubs?
**Yes! Absolutely.** You can add a Box Note directly to a Hub just like any other file. This makes Notes a great tool for building knowledge bases, onboarding guides, and team wikis inside Hubs.
Bonus tip: From the **AI Centre**, you can also use "Save as Note" to capture AI-generated content directly into a new Box Note.

📁 Q7: Are there plans to improve how Notes are organized - more folders, collections, navigation?
Yes! We're actively working on **folder tree navigation for Notes**, which will make it much easier to browse and organize your notes the way you'd expect. This is one of our near-term priorities, so watch for updates soon.

🗂️ Q8: Any thoughts on tabs in Notes? What about exporting to Word or PDF?
**Tabs:** We're considering it! The design isn't defined yet, and we'd love to hear your specific use cases - what would you use tabs for? The more concrete examples you share, the better we can design the right experience.
**Export:** Export to **PDF and Markdown** is on our roadmap. Export to Word is not currently confirmed. We'll share more as these features get closer to release.

🤖 Q9: Can we use Claude, ChatGPT, or other external AI tools to create Box Notes?
This one got a lot of excitement in the room, and for good reason! **Box MCP (Model Context Protocol) is already available**, which means you can create Box Notes today using tools like **ChatGPT, Claude, and Cursor**.
The ability to *update* an existing note via MCP is coming soon. This opens up some really powerful automation and AI-assisted workflows — we're excited to see what you build with it.

💬 Q10: Can AI conversation history be made available from the sidebar?
Not really. So AI chat history is for now available only in AI Center . Both inline AI and AI sidebar in Notes save chats there. But we will think about adding history to AI sidebar in Notes as well.

We hear you! Dark mode is something that requires coordination across all Box product teams to implement consistently. It's been noted and shared with the broader team. We can't commit to a timeline, but know that your voice has been heard.

📱 Q12: Do Box Notes sync with iPhone/iPad? Is there a standalone app?
**Box Notes are available in the Box mobile app today!** You can:
- Browse recent notes and favorites
- Search across your notes
- Create a new note with one tap
- Use Box AI inside Notes on mobile (ask questions, extract insights, generate summaries)
A standalone iPad app is not currently confirmed, but the mobile experience continues to improve with each release.
