Work Email used by Paralegal on Box years ago - now I cannot use for myself

I am a lawyer and a few folks at my firm started using Box a week or so ago on a trial to see if it would be a good for the firm. However, I was unable to sign up with my [removed by moderator] , so I used my [removed by moderator] . After looking into it further, I discovered that years ago a paralegal (no longer with the firm) setup a Box account with my [removed by moderator] , but under her name, in order to receive some [removed by moderator] securely. I was able to reset the password on that account, but could not change the name and therefore could not link it to my trial account. To try and fix this, I deleted that ( [removed by moderator] ) account. This did not fix the issue, so I am still stuck with my [removed by moderator] on the Box account linked to my firm, which is not a good solution.

Any ideas how to resolve this?

Hi @CRusek, welcome to the Box Community! I’m happy to help.

I see your Billing ticket has been resolved and your free personal account linked to your work email has been reactivated.

Please note that an email address can only be associated with one Box account. Since your work email is already in use, you have two options to join the enterprise:

📌 1. Admin action

  • Ask your enterprise admin to invite you as a managed user.
    • We have a separate thread with pinned answer for inviting users with existing account:

  • The admin can update your name, and delete the other account if needed then transfer files to your new account.
  • Refer to Deleting Managed Users article to learn more.

📌 2. Update your personal account

  • Log in to your personal account and change the primary email to one that’s not linked to Box.
  • By switching the work email as secondary, you can remove it from that account to release the email.
  • Then log in to the enterprise account and update the email there.
  • See Login and Email Addresses for steps.
