👋 Hi @ahgencia, welcome to the Box Community!
If the "Only collaborators can access this folder via shared links" checkbox is disabled and you cannot uncheck it (even though your company's global settings allow public sharing) this is typically caused by one of two common scenarios:
1. Subfolder inheritance (most common)
In Box, subfolders automatically inherit the security and sharing restrictions of their parent folders. If a parent folder has a restriction enabled, that setting is locked for all subfolders beneath it and cannot be overridden at the subfolder level.
-
The cause: The folder you are trying to configure is a subfolder inside a parent folder structure where "Only collaborators can access..." is turned on.
-
✅ The solution: You will need to navigate up to the top-level (root) parent folder of this directory. If you have Owner, Co-Owner, or Editor permissions on that parent folder, uncheck the restriction there. Once disabled at the parent level, the option will unlock for all of its subfolders.
2. Personal account-level sharing restrictions
Even if your company's global Enterprise Settings in the Admin Console allow public "People with the link" sharing, individual users can choose to restrict their own default sharing settings further.
-
The cause: Your personal account-wide sharing settings are configured to be more restrictive than the enterprise default.
-
✅ The solution: Click your initials in the top-right corner of your Box window and go to Account Settings > Sharing tab. Check your default shared link settings to ensure you haven't restricted them to collaborators only. If your personal settings are restricted, it will gray out the public sharing option on folders you own.
Hopefully, checking these two areas helps you get your link configured! Let us know if you have any other questions.
