Preview Header Change

Please, please, please, bring back the former preview header where it showed what folder it moved to. Now it shows “Updated… with the date the file was created.” This is frustrating when you need to make sure that you moved went to where you intended in case you made an error and moved it somewhere else. It was also very helpful when it showed what folder it moved to, in case you needed to open another tab to go to that folder without having to go through the hassle of navigating to it from a new browser tab. This Updated and remaining in the state is a big setback to this program.

If anyone knows a way to make it show what it used to I’d really love to know how to do it! And put the old close button on the right side back!

👋 Hi @Tamera, thank you for sharing your feedback regarding the recent updates to the Box Preview experience. We understand how frustrating it can be when changes disrupt your established workflows.

Here is some context regarding the changes you highlighted and how you can achieve similar navigation and verification within the updated interface:

  1. The close button and left-aligned back button
    • As part of our recent visual and navigational updates to modernize the Box web experience, the top-right close button has been replaced with a left-aligned back button. This change was implemented to create a more intuitive return experience and align with standard web navigation patterns. There is currently no setting to move this button back to the right side. (Learn more: A modernized look and feel is coming to Box)

  2. Verifying folder location and navigating to the parent folder
    • While the preview header has been simplified to show uploader and creation/update date details, you can still easily verify where your file is located and navigate to its parent folder directly from the preview screen:

      • Open the Metadata/Activity sidebar: Click on the file details or metadata icon in the right-hand side navigation panel. This panel displays basic file properties, including the file’s containing folder path, size, owner, and uploader. (See Introducing Box Preview article to learn more)

      • Access the parent folder link: If you have permission to access the file’s parent folder, a direct link to that folder is displayed beneath the file name in the sidebar or Recents views, allowing you to open it in a new tab or navigate to it without manual browsing.

      • Using the More Options menu: You can also click the more actions ellipsis (***) in the preview window to access file information and view the containing folder.

We appreciate your patience as we continue to refine the Box interface. Your feedback is incredibly valuable, and we will share it directly with our product team to help guide future updates. You can also share this idea or upvote similar request in Box Pulse which is our official platform for user’s feedback. Thank you!
