I am attempting to share a file with a client that gives them access to upload and download but NOT edit the document. I do not see a way to figure this out.

Can anyone assist with this issue?

Thank you,

👋 Hi @JLydon, welcome to the Box Community!

At this time, there isn’t a collaboration permission level that allows users to upload and download documents, but restricts them from editing these documents. To learn more, please refer to Understanding Collaborator Permission Levels.

A potential workaround is to assign Viewer permissions to users. This gives them access to preview and download items. Then, use File Request to get content from anyone. With File Request, you can even embed an upload widget, enabling users to upload documents directly to folders—without editing access. This setup allows users to preview, download, and upload files while keeping editing restrictions in place.

  • Note:
You must have a Box Business Plan account or higher to build a File Request form. However, no one needs a Box account to access the finished form and upload content.

We noticed you've already submitted a support ticket regarding this. While this has been previously suggested, if you're looking for a more targeted feature, we’d love for you to share your ideas via Box Pulse for future consideration.

If you have any further questions or need assistance, feel free to reach out. 😊
