Question

Copying files within a specific folder and time period

I need to copy all files from a specific folder created after March 14, 2025 to provide to an outside entity.  I tried performing a search from 03/24/2025 - 04/27/2026 and drilled down to that particular folder and the search was performed on all folders.  Help!  What am I doing wrong?

👋 Hi @Heather Bloomfield Box, thanks for the details. Searching by folder location and date range alone is usually too broad to return the exact set of files you need.

You’ll want to combine the folder and created-date filters with a keyword, file name term, or metadata value to narrow the results effectively.

A practical approach is to:

  1. Start in Content Manager search.

  2. Set the folder location to the specific folder.

  3. Set the date filter for files created after March 14, 2025.

  4. Add a keyword, filename term, or metadata value so the search is valid.

  5. Review the matching files.

  6. Copy the files using the Box web app rather than Box Drive, especially for larger copy jobs.

If these files are being prepared for external sharing, a best practice is to copy only the necessary files into a separate folder intended for outside access, then review permissions, shared links, and any external collaboration settings before sharing.

At this time, I’m not aware of a documented one-click way to return all files in a single folder created after a certain date using only folder and date filters.

If this functionality would be helpful for your workflow, I encourage you to submit a feature request in Box Pulse so our Product team can review it for future consideration.
