Question

Box AI is in my way

How can I either Remove Box AI from my toolbar at the right or at least move it so that it is not defaulted to the top and forcing me to click on comments for every file. I get it, AI is your new fancy gizmo, but it’s utterly useless for me and my team. Box is a storage solution first and foremost, don’t force me to use the AI tool.

👋 Hi @sethgunn1! Welcome to the Box Community! Box AI tools will be available only if enabled by your organization’s admin. I understand that you do not require it.

Note: To view and edit Box AI settings, you must be an organization Admin or a Co-admin with the following permissions enabled:

  • View settings and apps for your company
  • Edit settings and apps for your company

Admins can control who can use Box AI within your Box instance. To manage these settings, navigate to:
Admin Console > Enterprise Settings > Box AI tab

In the User Permissions section, click Edit Configuration, then choose one of the following options:

  • Disable for all managed users (default)
  • Enable for all managed users (recommended)
  • Enable for select users and groups, and then enter one or more user names, email addresses, or groups
  • Enable for everyone except select users and groups, and then enter one or more user names, email addresses, or groups

Learn more by visiting Enterprise Settings: Box AI Tab.

Thanks, and have a wonderful day! 😊

This is terrible that we are all just forced automatically to use AI. It feels like its being shoved down our throats for totally unhelpful fucntions across every platform, and I guess Box is no exception. Sigh.

Hi @a-e-s-w, welcome to the Box Community!

The Box AI feature can be enabled or disabled by your organization’s admin. You can check out Configuring Box AI to learn more.

When you open a file, you’ll also see a sidebar at the bottom right where you can show or hide tools such as AI, activity, metadata, and other integrations. While the AI tab can’t be moved from the top, selecting another tool (e.g., Activity) will keep that view active as you open other files, so it won’t default back to Box AI each time.

For your feedback, we encourage you to share it on Box Pulse. Our Product Team actively reviews user input to improve features and the overall experience, and your voice will definitely help. Thank you!
