Hey! Hope all is good, we’re encountering some issues uploading folders/files to box.

We work with photoshop, our working files automatically generate a folder with the assets designed. We’ve been noticing that since using box some assets are not being generated and the issue seems to be related to the path (see image attached)

After asking Ai about this issue, and it said: Because Box folders are mounted as network drives on Mac (under Locations in Finder), the full file path can become very long. macOS has limits on file path length, so when the combined folder and file names exceed that limit, the error appears.

Do you know how to fix this?

Hello @Daniela Araya, I'm sorry to hear you're experiencing issues uploading files or folders to Box.

To help investigate and troubleshoot further, I've submitted a support ticket on your behalf. Our Product Support team may reach out to request logs or system diagnostics to help isolate the issue.

Please keep an eye out for a follow-up email, someone from the team will be in touch shortly.

Looking forward to getting this resolved for you soon. 😊

This is a known limitation that happens when working with Box Drive (or any cloud storage mounted as a network drive). On macOS and Windows, there are system-level limits to how long a full file path can be. When Photoshop generates deeply nested asset folders with long file names, the combined path (Box mount point + folder structure + file name) can exceed that limit, and the files won’t save.

Ways to fix / work around it:

  1. Shorten the path – Try moving your working folder closer to the root of Box (e.g., Box/ProjectName/...) instead of keeping it several folders deep. Shorter folder and file names also help.

  2. Work locally, then upload – Save Photoshop assets to a local drive (like Desktop or Documents), then copy the finished folder into Box once rendering is complete. This bypasses the live path-length limit during generation.

  3. Check for filename length – Photoshop often generates long asset names. Renaming layers/artboards before export can reduce the output filename size.

  4. Use Box Web for upload – If shortening paths isn’t practical, export locally and drag the finished folder into Box Web, which doesn’t rely on a mounted drive path.

👉 In short: the safest fix is to work in a local folder and then move the assets into Box, or keep project folders as shallow and concise as possible to avoid hitting the OS path length limit.
