I’m trying to add a Box Note to a Hub but Box is telling me I don’t have permission to add it.

I have Editor access to the root folder and folder where this note is stored.

What might be the reason?

👋 Hi @JulioLopezBrito, welcome to the Box Community!

It’s most likely due to the Hub’s permissions. Could you please check if your access level in the Hub is set to Viewer?

As documented:

  • You can only add files & folders which you are an owner, co-owner, or editor of. Reference: Adding Content to Box Hubs
  • Viewer can’t make any changes to the Hubs they are invited to.
If a folder Uploader is invited to a Hub as Viewer, the folder Uploader permissions to the content change to Viewer/Uploader.
    Reference: Box Hubs Permissions

You may want to reach out to the Hub owner if that’s the case. However, if the issue persists, feel free to contact our Product Support by submitting a ticket so they can investigate further.

Hoping to get this sorted out. 😊

Thank you for the prompt response and welcome.

I created the Hub.  In the Hub settings I only see these two options:

(1) Control who can create or modify shared links

(2) Control who can add or modify collaborators

I have them both checked for “Editors and Co-authors”.

I didn’t have any issue adding most of the other notes I wanted.

It’s just one root folder and all notes and files are grayed out.

I can access all of those files and notes through Box, freely.

You’re most welcome, and thanks for sharing your insights.

Since you’re the Hub’s owner and the issue is occurring with a root folder—including the one containing the Box Note you’re trying to add—it might be due to folder restrictions set by the admin or owner.

Just a quick note when adding content to a Box Hub:

Admin settings and Folder restrictions apply. If the owner/co-owner of the folder has enabled folder restrictions to only allow owners/co-owners to add collaborators, then an editor will not be able to add content from that folder to the Box Hub. Additionally, if the Admin has checked Collab Restriction in the Admin Console, the same result would occur.

Could you please double-check these restrictions with the admin and the folder owner?

Thank you, Jey.

With your help, we finally figured it out.

It was an invitation to collaborators restriction box that had been marked inadvertenly in that folder.

Regards

Cool! Great to hear that you were able to resolve the issue.
