Enable Developer account from Individual

Hello!

I need assistance with enabling my account as a free developer account so I can authorize apps and continue developing. However, I keep seeing the message, "Log in or sign up for a Box Developer account to access all of the Developer Console features," even though I am already logged in.

If anyone knows what might be happening or how to resolve this, I would really appreciate your help.

👋 Hi @ellasej, welcome to the Box Community! I’d be glad to assist.

An email address can only be linked to one Box account. Since you’ve already signed up for a Free Individual account, which is different from the Developer account, here are your options to resolve this:

  1. Sign up with a different email

  2. Release your current email from the Individual account

    • Because Box only allows one account per email, you’ll need to change the email on your existing account first.
    • Steps:
      • Click your initials in the upper-right corner → Account Settings
      • Scroll down to Default Email Address → click Link Personal Email
      • Verify the new email (it will be set as secondary)
      • Switch the new email to primary, then remove the original email tied to the account
    • Once released, you can use your preferred email to sign up for the Free Developer account.

For more guidance, see Login and Email Addresses.

Feel free to reach out if you have any other concerns.

Enable my existing personal Box account as a Free Developer account - Error 400

I do not want to upgrade to a paid Enterprise plan.

I already have a regular/personal Box account with this email address, and I only want to enable it as a Box Free Developer account so I can use the Developer Console features.

When I try to sign up or activate the Free Developer account, I receive:

“There was an error processing your request.
Error 400 - We cannot process your request at this time, further verification is needed. Please submit a billing support ticket and include the error code for further assistance.”

I can access the Developer Console, but I see this banner:

“Log in or sign up for a Box Developer account to access all of the Developer Console features.”

Because of this, Developer Console features such as Webhooks / Manage Signature Keys are not visible.

Could you please verify my existing Box account and enable it as a Box Free Developer account? I am not requesting a paid Enterprise upgrade.

Error code: Error 400

👋 Hi @AI platform, welcome to the Box Community!

An email address can only be linked to one Box account, which is likely why you’re seeing an error. To review your options and resolve this issue, please see the pinned answer above this thread.

If you need additional assistance signing up for Free Developer, please submit a ticket to Product Support.

Thanks, and we look forward to getting this resolved.
