Hello,

I am the Senior Manager of Data at a small non-profit. We use Box extensively to collect sensitive and personal information from external collaborators. Some of these collaborators have raised concerns about our IT Manager having access to all of the folders we use. We are using a “closed” folder structure where our IT Manager created the top-level folders so the waterfall permissions fall down to the lowest levels.

Is there any way our administrator could continue to see the folder structure but not the actual files in the folders?

Thank you!

👋 Hi @gbarnum, welcome to the Box Community! I understand the concerns your collaborators raised regarding shared content especially when it involves sensitive information.

Currently, Box does not support a way for administrators to view folder structures without also having access to the files within those folders. Apologies for any limitations.

Regarding the closed folder structure: admins create and own all root-level folders on the ‘All Files’ page. Choosing a closed folder structure typically indicates that the administrative team requires greater control over users and their content. You can learn more by visiting Plan Your Folder Structure.

For a more secure and strategic approach to managing your content and collaboration, I recommend discussing this with your Account Executive. I've sent you a message with the contact details of the person you can reach out to.

Have a great day! 😊
