Question

PNGs in External Partner email attachments to incoming folder

We currently have standard enterprise licenses. When our external collaborators email an attachment into our incoming file folder. The system also includes the PNGs (like company logos) from the email when all we want is the attachment itself. It appears as though standard relay does not allow for file type filtering so I can’t send all *.png to trash or another folder.  There also isn’t a way to create a default filter for all users to minimize the clutter in the incoming folder. Any suggestions or insights would be welcome! Thank you in advance!

Phil,

Had the same exact issue and solved it with Mailparser.  We already use Mailparser for a lot of workflows internally but we wanted a bounce to just send in the attachment and strip away everything else.  Mailparser worked great.  We also have solved this another way using Zapier since we get a lot of mail sent to Slack channels directly and we wanted only specific elements (like attachments) sent to the channel.  Both work wonderfully!

Box partner mxHERO can also automate inbound and/or attachment stripping (including metadata) from emails and allow for specific routing into Box based on configuration setups.

@Pouncysilverkitten and @DonHammons Thank you both for your reply. I was hoping for a no-cost workflow fix as my client is a startup company. Most likely will need to just schedule a manual clean up process.  Thank you for the replies.

Phil,

happy to help.  One other thing you could try - a free method - is to establish a mail flow rule in Exchange that blocks all incoming payload items of a certain type (e.g., png, jpg, etc) which will ensure that only actual payloads make it through such as PDFs, etc.  This will then work wonderfully for the Box bounce you are looking for.  Just means that you need access to your exchange console for your 365 environment.  Good luck!
