Help changing email address

I used Box.com at my old law firm. I need to change my email account to be for my new law firm. When I go into account settings and try to link my new email, it says “You cannot use an email address from an unverified domain as your secondary email address. Ask your admin to validate the domain you want to use or contact your Box support representative.”

I did not receive an email to verify my new email account. I checked my Spam and have not received it. I need help from a Box support representative.

Hi @Hannah M,

Thanks for reaching out. The error indicates that Box is treating the new firm’s email domain as unverified for the account or enterprise involved. The next step depends on how your current Box account is set up:

  • If this is an individual account, or your old firm no longer manages it, please contact Box Support to review the account and help determine why the new address can’t be added.
  • If the account is still managed by your former firm, its Box admin may need to assist with changing the account email. The new firm’s Box admin may also need to verify the new domain if the account is being added to that firm’s enterprise.

Not receiving a verification email may be expected if Box blocks the address before it can be added. Please contact Box Support and include the exact error message.

Best,

Jason

Hi @Hannah M, just to build on Jason’s message regarding domain verification: to better protect our customers, Box has implemented zero-trust enhancements for admins. As part of this update:

  • Admins will no longer be able to change an existing email address to be a public or unverified domains (such as gmail or yahoo) for their email address.

(For business/enterprise) If you have access to your Box Admin credentials, you can resolve this by following these steps to Add a Managed Domain. Once the domain is verified, you will be able to proceed with updating your email address.

Thank you so much for your understanding. Please submit a ticket to our Support team if you need additional assistance.
