Deleted personal account email still reserved, cannot link it to enterprise admin account

I am the admin of a Business Plus enterprise. A free personal Box account existed on an address at a domain I have since verified in my enterprise. I permanently deleted that personal account today so I could link the address as a secondary email on my admin account, but Link Email still returns "There was an error while trying to add to your account." The deleted user does not appear anywhere in my admin console. Could Box Support release that address from the deleted account so it can be linked? My plan does not show a submit-a-case option, so I am posting here. Happy to provide the addresses in a ticket.

Hi @bhansen_adv, welcome to the Box Community! I’d be glad to assist.

An email can only be linked to one Box account at a time. Also per deletion policy:

The email address used for the free account cannot be used in any Box account until 120 days after account deletion.

See How To Cancel Your Box Account / Subscription for reference.

To help you resolve this, please reach out to our Billing team to reactivate the canceled account. You can contact them at billing@box.com or call 1-877-729-4269. Be sure to reach out using the email that’s associated with the account in question.

Once they reactivate it, you can:

Option 1: Delete the account in the Admin Console

  1. Invite the user to your enterprise. This step will give your organization's Box account control of the account, which is required for the next step.
  2. Deleting this account in the admin console will free up the email address to then be added as the user's secondary email.
  3. Add the email address as a secondary email.

Option 2: If you wish to keep your personal account

  1. Change the primary email of that old account to a different, placeholder email.
  2. Free up your preferred email address.
  3. You can then successfully link it to your main account as a secondary email.
