Cannot Upload External File in Cloud

My access is under AEC collection only.  I cannot upload files in cloud having AEC collection license only.  I tried Forma Build 30-day trial and I was able to upload files such as Navisworks nwd file.  Is there a way to upload nwd file to cloud even if my account is set as Admin of Autodesk software with AEC collection licenses?

Hi @Christopher De Leon, thank you for reaching out.

If you are trying to upload an NWD file to Autodesk cloud services such as Autodesk Construction Cloud, Forma, or BIM 360, we do not have documentation confirming whether this is supported with an AEC Collection license alone. We do not cover Autodesk licensing requirements or Autodesk cloud upload restrictions.

NWD files can be stored and managed in Box. A referenced Box Drive release note mentions a previously fixed issue related to saving Autodesk Navisworks files as NWD, which indicates support for working with NWD files in Box. However, that does not confirm support for uploading those files into Autodesk’s own cloud platforms.

If you are trying to upload the file to Box, here are a few things to check and try:

  • Confirm your account’s file size upload limit.

  • Make sure the file name does not contain unsupported characters.

  • Try a different browser or network connection.

  • Try uploading the .nwd via the Box web app — web uploads generally accept common file binaries including NWD.

  • Try saving/uploading from Box Drive or Box Tools (if you use Box Drive, ensure the client is updated).

  • Confirm you have write/upload permission on the target folder (owner/co‑owner/editor or appropriate folder permissions).

📌 If uploads fail, collect Box Edit/Box Drive logs and a network capture and open a Box Support case.

If you are trying to upload the file to Autodesk’s cloud using an AEC Collection license, the best next step is to contact Autodesk Support or review Autodesk documentation for Autodesk Construction Cloud or Forma. They can confirm supported file types and whether any additional licensing is required.

Thank you, and feel free to reach out if you have any other concerns.
