Question

Can I suspend my account?

I have an auto-renewal per month with Box.com that a client wants me to use with them.  I’ve now learned that there will be random months where I won’t have to use it.  Can I suspend the account and re-activate it when I need to use it?

👋 Hi @hkpwnetd, welcome to the Box Community! I’d be glad to address your concerns.

Box does not currently offer a way to pause or temporarily suspend a self-serve paid account and then resume it later.

If you’re on a monthly plan without an annual commitment, the closest option is to cancel the subscription before a month when you do not need it, then reactivate it later if your account is eligible. Online reactivation may be available within 120 days of cancellation for business-level accounts.

A few important details:

  • If you cancel, the account ends at the close of your current service term as we do not process mid-term cancellations.
  • Auto-renewal will continue unless the subscription is canceled before the renewal date.
  • If you are on an annual commitment, cancellation or downgrade is not available during that committed term.

For online cancellation, you can follow the steps outlined here: Canceling Your Box Account. Please make sure to use a browser, as this option isn’t available in the mobile app.

If you run into issues, you can email cancel@box.com to confirm your request.

If your usage is only occasional, you might also consider downgrading to a free individual account and upgrading again later if needed. A free account lets you keep your content, collaborate with other Box users, and continue using the features available at that level. To downgrade, simply email cancel@box.com from your admin email.

Please reach out if you have any other concerns.
