I am adding a user but it gives me an error “invitation available for freemium account holders”. Not sure what to do from there. Any help would be great!

👋 Hi @Dali, welcome to the Box Community!

“Invitation available for freemium account holders” means the email you entered already has a personal (freemium) Box account associated with it. Box is warning you that groups/folder assignments and some user settings won’t apply until the person accepts your invite.

What to do next

  • Click Save (again if you saw “1 user failed to be added” first). That starts the invitation process and sends an email and an in‑Box notification to the user.
  • Once the user accepts the invite, their account will be rolled into your enterprise.

When adding a new user the following caution is displayed:

“Invitation available for freemium account holders”

This is new as I have been able to add new users. Our domain is successfully registered:

Help, please.

I'm trying to add users to our Business Account.  When I go to add users, I get a pop-up stating, “This email address is already associated with a freemium account”.  I click save and nothing happens.  No email is sent to the user to join.  What do I need to do to get them on my Business Account?

The message you’re seeing indicates that the user has already signed up to Box but not yet part of an enterprise. See the pinned answer above this thread on how to resolve this concern.

I have two users who are part of our team that I will need to assign specific access to manage a team folder, but these users already associated under a fremium account. What do I need to do to gets them into the team under viewer uploader access to a team folder? I cant add them into the user section as of yet. One of the users has an email that’s part of our domain, and the other hasa gmail account.

I look at this topic “Cant register users because they are on another account” but it looks like it’s related to a gust account.

👋 Hi @Scott, welcome to the Box Community! I’ve moved your post to this relevant thread.

The message you encounter means the email you’re trying to invite already has a personal (freemium) Box account. See pinned answer above for additional details.

You can add them to your account by following these steps:

  1. Go to Admin Console > Users and Groups.
  2. Click the Managed Users tab.
  3. Click Add Users () and then click Add Users Manually.
  4. Enter the managed user’s name and email address.
  5. Click Save.
  6. When an error message appears stating that the user failed to be added, ignore the error, and click Save again to send the invitation.
  7. Once the user accepted the invite that was sent to their email address, they should be able to join your enterprise

Additionally, the users can also accept the invitation through the Notification Center:

  1. Log in to Box
  2. Click the bell icon (🔔) in the top-right corner
  3. Find the enterprise invitation notification
  4. Click Accept

Thanks, and feel free to reach out if you have any other concerns.
