When you open the first file in Box, the file_id is set correctly to the ID of the first file opened, but if you then open a second file, the file_id may remain the ID of the first file.
If you then reopen the second file, the file_id will be correctly updated to the ID of the second file, but please check to see if this is an issue on the BOX side.
