Query – Subfolder Retention

Hi Support Team,

I hope you are well.

I wanted to check if Box supports retention or lifecycle policies that can be applied only to subfolders within a main folder.

Our requirement is to keep the main parent folder permanently, as it is used by automations to create new subfolders. However, we would like all subfolders created inside this main folder to be automatically deleted after 30 days.

Since these subfolders will be created dynamically by automation, we need a solution where the policy automatically applies to any new subfolder created under the main folder, without impacting the main folder itself.

Could you please confirm if this is supported and, if yes, advise the best way to configure this?

Please let me know if you need any additional information from our side.

Thank you.

Hey Anjish,

This should be possible using a combination of Box Relay and classification-based retention, if I’m understanding the ask correctly. Basically, you would set an automatic trigger on folder creation within the main folder, that applies a classification label to the new folder. That classification label can carry retention policies that will apply to that sub folder.

Does that help?
