An important folder that I own and do not share with others has disappeared from my box folder. I did not delete it and It is not in my trash. How do I recover the data?

👋 Hi @kamihull, welcome to the Box Community!

If you own the folder, did not delete it, and it is not in your Trash, the most likely possibilities are that it was moveddeleted by a collaborator in a collaborative context, or purged from Trash.

What to do first

  1. Search Box, including Trash. Use search with the folder name or keywords, and set In Folder = In trash.
  2. Check whether it was moved rather than deleted. In collaborative folders, users with Editor access or above can move or delete content.
  3. Use Trash filters. Filter Trash by Items I own and Items I deleted to help determine whether someone else deleted content you own.
  4. If you’re an admin, check Content Manager/admin restore options. Admin tools can help inspect and restore eligible trashed items for managed users.
  5. If it is truly not in Trash, please submit a ticket to Box Product Support immediately. Once content has been purged from Trash, paying customers may still have a 14-day grace period after purge during which Product Support may be able to recover it.

Thank you, and feel free to reach out if you have any other concerns.
