LarsJ Box

 Now released and GA...

A new experience which lets teams review videos directly in Box with timestamped comments, on-screen annotations, and faster playback speeds.

Key capabilities

  • Time‑stamped comments — Add comments tied to an exact playback time; toggle timestamp on/off and update it.
  • On‑screen annotations — Draw freeform or square annotations on frames, choose color, and attach comments.
  • @mentions — Mention teammates in comments to notify them.
  • Enhanced player controls — Quick 5‑second jump forward/back for faster review.

Activity & notifications

  • Activity feed integration — Comments and their timestamps appear in the activity sidebar.
  • Email notifications — Recipients get emails with comment text, timestamp, and a link that opens the video at the exact referenced moment.

Things to note

  • Annotations are hidden during playback to avoid obscuring video; click markers to view.
  • Multiple annotations allowed at the same timestamp.

How do I know I have the feature turned on?

The video player controls will be updated and users will see the annotations feature (pencil and square) on the left of the video player controls.

How do I create an annotation and comment?

Annotation

  1. Open a video in Box Preview.

  2. Click the annotate/comment button — the video pauses automatically.

  3. Draw a freeform or square annotation and select a color.

  4. Add comment text and optionally @mention a teammate.

  5. Save — the comment and timestamp appear in the activity feed and trigger notification(s).

Time-stamped comments

  1. Open a video in Box Preview.

  2. As the video is playing, open the Activity sidebar and click on the comments input field.

  3. Timestamp is added and you can type in the comment you want to leave.

  4. If you do not want the timestamp, you can toggle it off.

  5. Toggle the timestamp back on, to change the timestamp.
