Higher Education News & Notes

I don't know about you, but as a Box admin I always walk around with a list of features and fantasies about Box functionality I would love to see just in case I run into a Box-er who can make all those dreams come true. Well today at BoxWorks Aaron Levie took care of a big chuck of that list without me even having to ask...much.

by BobFlynn-IU Box Certified Professional ‎09-07-2016 12:40 AM - edited ‎09-07-2016 12:42 AM

A day of pre-BoxWorks events left me with enough content for the week. And this bit of swag alone made the trip worthwhile!

On the Road Again: BoxWorks 2016

by BobFlynn-IU Box Certified Professional on ‎09-05-2016 06:42 AM

It's that time of year again. BoxWorks 2016 takes place this week and there are few places I'd rather be. (One is still in bed, I had to get up way too early to start my trek west.)

I have a particuarly exicting and busy week planned at BoxWorks. My agenda includes CIOWorks, the first run of the Box Certified Professionals (BCP) training, two presentations, multiple higher ed networking opportunities, my first face-to-face meetings with my colleagues on the Box Product Advisory Board and some conversations with industry analysts. All of that is followed by the Internet2 NET+ Box higher education advisory board meeting.

Using Metadata in Box session

by jkellynotredame ‎09-29-2015 11:43 AM - edited ‎09-29-2015 12:13 PM

A pic from the session

And some notes from the session...hope they are accurate!

Can't figure out how to cut/paste from iPad to this site...apologies

Figured it out....yeah

Metadata lives below default file data in info in preview that box attaches to the file
Metadata work like folder. I.e. Collaborators can change metadata data, but can't change the template
Changes to fields are not part of version history
Admin can hide custom fields from collaborators
Drop down menus cannot be changed
No enforcement of data in fields...yet
Have to be an editor to edit data in fields
At present, cannot lock fields so others can't edit
Does it work on mobile? Editable from mobile devices??
Search - yes, picks up data from mobile and web ui
Multi select in attributes? Not yet

Can you automate anything for attributes out put in a certain folder? Needs api work to do this

First impressions....

by solomon1 on ‎09-29-2015 07:46 AM

Day 0 was good, caught up with collegues and got a bit of a taste of what to come over the next 48 hours.  Looking forward to keynote by Aaron Levie and hearing what new and exicting things Box has for us this year.

So maybe Boxworks only really starts tomorrow, but the pre-event evening had me psyched up to catch up with colleagues find out what is new. I managed the former, but came up short on the latter. I'm sure Aaron Levie has a few tricks up his sleeve for tomorrow.
