Hello: Is there a way to disable the preview function? We have password protected excel sheets we load to the portal, and this causes problems when users try to open the file. We would just like them to download the file, not preview. Hopefully that makes sense.
Currently, preivew cannot be disabled for documents uploaded to Box.
You can add a description to the file/folder to not preview the file and to just download it to let users know to not view the file.
The preview doesnt work for 50%+ of our files and overall is not good. We just want to download when clicking on the file name this should absolutely be an option.
There may be a misunderstanding of what the actual problem is? Previewing is an additional step that confuses new users. This confusion creates massive delays and additional support due to phone calls and emails with new collaborators. Moreover, many times senior management users will refuse to use Box, because the preview function confuses them. These are decision makers who will ultimately decide to stop paying for Box services.
The problem is: when a user clicks the file name, Box immediately jumps to preview. Furthermore, downloading the file requires at least two mouse clicks. This is not a problem for experienced users who have Box Sync; however, Box is a collaboration tool. Collaboration often involves new/inexperienced users who do not understand how to download files, because downloading the file requires clicking the tiny "more" icon and then selecting "download" from a list of numerous options. In my line of work, collaboration usually involves tracked changes/comments in files which aren't available unless you have Box Editor. Nobody in my organization uses Box editor, nor do we have the desire to use Box Editor.
If Box is hard glued to the idea of using preview, can you please build a download icon that is equally as large so users are making an obvious choice between preview and download?
