What is being discontinued?

Effective January 1, 2020, Box no longer offers Relay Classic.  As for any Box files you may have used in Relay Classic workflows, these remain in Box and you can continue to access them as you normally do.

Here are more details on the new and improved Box Relay and Relay Lite that have replaced Relay Classic.

Box Relay Classic – Effective December 31, 2019, Box and IBM will permanently discontinue the existing Box Relay service that IBM hosts. (We now refer to this version as Relay Classic).  Until that date we will continue to provide technical support and critical bug fixes for Relay Classic. But we are not improving or enhancing Relay Classic in any way.

In addition, beginning January 1, 2020, the API endpoints of all Relay Classic APIs will cease to function and will begin returning error responses to any applications calling those APIs.

You can run both Relay and Relay Classic concurrently, right up until December 31, 2019.

Box Automations – Customers of Box Automations will also see a change. Box Automations will be replaced by Relay Lite, a free version of Relay that has limited functionality. Relay Lite is also on the Box platform so it, too, is simpler to use, more secure, and receives automatic updates. However, it contains only a subset of Relay’s trigger and output events.

If you are currently using Box Automations and want to use Relay Lite, you do not need to do anything. We will migrate you automatically. You will not lose any data or existing workflows.
