Note: This release has been reverted and will be re-launched at a later date.

We have updated the Upload Embed Widget based on customer feedback in order to support multiple files being uploaded in the widget at once. There are no additional functionality changes in this release and no action required for existing widgets in use; these will automatically upgrade to the latest update.

We discovered an unexpected behavior in the Move, Copy, and Share actions from the edit menu in the Files app that is allowing content from Managed Apps to be passed to Unmanaged Apps.

We will introduce the ability to limit this unexpected behavior in the Admin Console under the Mobile tab. By enabling this feature, we will automatically disable Files functionality for unprotected versions of iOS and automatically reenable the Files functionality when a protected version of iOS comes online. Enabling this feature means that some workflows might be affected because of turning off the Files functionality.

Workflow Example
Checkbox off
Checkbox on
Work-around
Being able to see Box Files on the iOS Files app
End-user is able to see managed files on iOS Files App
End-user is unable to see managed files on iOS Files App
None at this time
Attaching a Box File to an email through the iOS Mail email client
User is able to attach a file through the iOS Sharesheet
User is unable to attach a file through the iOS Sharesheet in Mail
  • Use a shared-link instead of attaching a file
  • Invite the user to a file as a collaborator (permission determined by you)
Opening an iWork file from Box into an iWork iOS app (Presentation, etc.) User is able to open an iWork file in an iWork iOS App (Presentation, etc.) User is not able to open an iWork file in an iWork iOS App (Presentation, etc.) None at this time

We will also be creating a Security Log through the Events API. Within Admin Insights, users will be able to run a report to see the audit log. This feature will launch a month later after the feature launch itself. We will expose the ability to run the report after the Files functionality launch.

This release of Android includes various stability improvements and bug fixes outlined below:

  • Users will see now an improved upload speed of larger files (more than 20 Mb)
  • This fix also reduced the chances of a ‘lost connection’ error for end users.
  • We uncovered a bug that continued to upload a file after a user hit ‘pause.’ Upon this release, users will no longer continue to experience their files uploading if they have opted to pause the upload.
  • Finally, we fixed an issue where the "conflicts with existing item” error message didn't show when there was a new upload of a file with the same name in the same location. This created a new version of the file on top of the existing file, but now users will be prompted with an error message.

This update of Android includes various bug fixes and enhancements as outlined below:
  • We discovered a bug where the 'Open in' functionality was not working and users were prompted with an 'An unknown error occurred...' message. Users should now be able to open files without an issue.
  • Initially, the Android app would display an error message if a user uploaded a file with the same name in the same location. To ensure users have a consistent experience on the WebApp and our mobile application, we  no longer show this message.
  • Certain push notifications would display the wrong avatar, but this update has resolved the avatar display issue.

  • Starting November 12, 2018, Box will no longer be supporting the DICOM Proxy. The DICOM Proxy should continue to work as is. However, effective the EOL date, Box will no longer be assisting customers with configuring the DICOM Proxy or other related technical issues / support. In case of any breaking changes in the future that render the DICOM Proxy dysfunctional, Box reserves the right to patch the Proxy or not.

  • Box will continue to support the Box DICOM Viewer and the upload functionality via the Box DICOM Import Tool (part of the Box Web App) will continue to work. Learn more about the DICOM Proxy vs Viewer here.
