Large Scale Deployments - Box Drive

by on ‎06-13-2017 04:55 PM - edited on ‎08-14-2017 02:59 PM by (2,725 Views)

Box Drive gives you and your users access to content stored in Box through the desktop's default file browser. View and edit content directly from your desktop, and your changes are automatically saved to Box.

This article contains important instructions and considerations for administrators who want to deploy Box Drive to a large number of computers.

System Requirements

Currently, Box for Desktop supports the following operating systems:

  • Win7 64bit
  • Win10 64bit
  • OSX 10.11
  • OSX 10.12

Box Sync and Box Drive

There are known issues with having both Box Sync and Box Drive installed on a single machine. We recommend uninstalling Box Sync from your users' machines before installing Box Drive. Click here for uninstallation instructions.

You can install Box for Desktop by downloading and running the Box Drive MSI. Before running the MSI, install the corresponding prerequisites listed below. There will not be a .exe installer for Box Drive.

See for more information about performing silent MSI installs.

Note that even with a silent MSI install, end-users will need to log into Box Drive manually themselves.

  • OSX 10.11 or OSX 10.12
  • Ensure Box Sync has been removed from your users machines

Administrators can distribute the Box Drive PKG file to Mac users within their organization using standard application deployment tools.  Alternatively, IT departments can install the PKG when imaging machines. End-users will need to log into Box Drive manually the first time they launch the app.
