Missing Box Drive Icons in Windows Explorer

Note

The icons in your Box Drive folder are managed by registry keys created during the installation of the application. In order to edit your OS registry to prioritize the Box Drive icons, follow the steps below:

  1. Open regedit by going to Start and entering "regedit" (Click Yes on any User Account Control prompts).
  2. On the left-hand side there should be a folder structure navigator. The folders are keys. Find the key at the path:
    • HKey_Local_Machine\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\ShellIconOverlayIdentifiers
  3. Expand the key so you can see the subkeys.
  4. There should be Box related subkeys. Some examples are:
    1. BoxLocked
    2. BoxFileLockedByOther
    3. BoxProblem
    4. BoxFileSynced
    5. BoxSyncing
    6. BoxAvailableOffline

If there are more than 11 subkeys in this section, Windows may not prioritize the Box Drive subkeys. Consider uninstalling any unused apps to reduce the number of extraneous subkeys.
